The Power of Possibilities: Celebrating 21 Years of Moorambilla Voices
Join us for a stunning evening of song, dance and Taiko as Moorambilla Voices perform The Power of Possibilities. This landmark program celebrates 21 years of artistic and cultural collaboration.
Witness more than 400 young voices representing 81 communities across regional NSW perform works that capture the energy and grace of Australian native birdlife across the Narran Lakes and Macquarie Marshes. They will be joined by guest artists Barkindji singer-songwriter Nancy Bates and Swedish Sámi storyteller and yoiker Anna Kraik Åström.
Under the baton of Moorambilla Voices Founder and Artistic Director Michelle Leonard OAM, they will be joined by a professional chamber orchestra, including members of the Australian Youth Orchestra’s Momentum Ensemble, for an extraordinary celebration of music, culture and community.
Featuring 14 world premieres, this performance brings together the work of more than 50 artists, with compositions by Kevin Barker, Oliver Cameron, Christine Chen, Josie Gibson, Ryuji Hamada, Thomas Royce Hampton, Andrew Howes, Elizabeth Jigalin, Oliver Muller, Andrew O’Connor and Dan Walker. These compositions have inspired choreography by Neville Williams-Boney and Aroha Pehi, exploring the songlines, movements and behaviours of native birdlife and the ancient connections that have linked these remarkable wetlands for thousands of years.
Moorambilla Voices acknowledges with immense gratitude the generosity, cultural knowledge and guidance of Aunty Brenda McBride, Aunty Priscilla Strasek, Aunty Rhonda Ashby and Uncle Thomas Barker, and the many Elders, Knowledge Holders, linguists and communities who have walked alongside and guided Moorambilla over the past 21 years.
